Next, we connect with the great Kelly Cordes to talk about the recent passing of Cesare Maestri at the ripe old age of 91 years old. Maestri, the affectionately named Spider of the Dolomites, was legend and climbing icon in his home of Italy, but his legacy is inextricably linked to all but debunked claims of having completed the first ascent of Cerro Torre in 1959.

I’m glad Kelly came to his senses after 10 yrs of being a major asshole on this topic. Cesari must have been mortified until his last day. What the fuck does he know what he told his Egger parents? Those kids coming to Argentina to chop bolts, what disrespectful twats. I’m just really glad we’re all old now, in new times and past these colonialist displays of arrogance in far-away mountains.
I know what Maestri told Egger’s parents from Egger’s sister and written accounts — in other words, research, as opposed to uninformed spouting off. Best wishes, dude.
